Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens inside the browser you're using right now. Your videos and images are never sent anywhere or stored.

Is it free? Does it add a watermark?

It's free to use, and no watermark is added to your files.

Conversion is slow.

In recent versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari, ClipSize uses your device's video hardware to convert quickly. Older browsers fall back to recording while the video plays, which takes as long as the video itself. Try opening the page in an up-to-date browser.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, in an up-to-date mobile browser. Long high-resolution videos can run out of memory on phones, so a computer works better for those.

How do I reduce a JPG's file size?

Add your photo, keep the format on JPG, then lower the quality slider, or type a number in Target size (for example 200) and click Fit to size. The resulting size shows right away. Making the pixel size smaller reduces the file much more. Saving also removes camera data such as location (EXIF).

Can I turn a video into a GIF?

Yes. Add a video and choose GIF as the format to open the GIF settings. Pick the part to keep with the timeline ends, set frame rate, speed, direction (forward, reverse, boomerang), looping and colors, then save. A width of 480px, 10 seconds or less and 10–15 frames per second gives a size that works well for chats and forums.
